Sustainable Fashion For Kids - Rewearing Clothes This Winter
With every new season, families find themselves needing the right clothes, in the right sizes for every occasion! Whether it’s wrapping up in winter or shedding thinner layers in summer, it can be hard to keep up with the cost of wardrobe updates. We love to spoil our little ones and understand that adding new clothes to their wardrobe is the best feeling, but it can also be quite expensive. That’s why we’ve been coming up with new ways to update your children’s wardrobe that are cost-saving, convenient and more sustainable too! We’ve been involved with lots of exciting partnerships recently and many of them give our customers other ways to buy our clothes that save money and are also way better for the environment! If you want some of our products, here are some alternative ways you can get your hands on them.
Rent children’s clothes through The Little Loop
One brand we partnered with quite a while ago was The Little Loop. Heard of them? You might have, because they actually featured on Dragon’s Den! The Little Loop is a children’s clothing company created by Charlotte Morley, (who we had the fabulous opportunity to interview!). Through them you can rent lots of different clothes from many big brands for a much cheaper price. With renting you don’t have to worry about spending as much money or having the space at home and you’re also contributing a positive impact to the environment by avoiding waste. Through their website you can find our wellies and rainwear as well as our waffles and swimwear range! Especially with some of our sold out pieces, this is a great way to get them. Check out their website for more information and give renting a try. You won’t regret it.
Buy Second Hand on Dotte
If you want some new clothes but also want to save a penny or two, then Dotte is a great place to go. Dotte is a marketplace dedicated to secondhand childrenswear so it’s full of clothing for your little ones. We recently partnered with Dotte to encourage some of our own customers to donate those pieces they no longer need. Children grow out of their clothes so quickly and it seems a shame to throw them away when they look like new. Now lots of our customers are selling their Grass & Air favourites on Dotte, which means it’s a great place for you to get your hands on a bargain. It’s a fantastic sustainable way to buy second hand clothing that look good as new, while stopping them from going to landfill that bit longer. And if you want to sell some of your own Grass & Air pieces on Dotte, you will receive a £5 voucher to buy some more from our website. Check out Dotte for more info.
Re-wear your wardrobe
Consider carrying out a wardrobe audit to see if any of your kids clothes can be repurposed. Especially in the winter season, lighter layers can be worn under waterproofs and coats to reduce bulk. Our waffles range has some great winter staples because they’re created especially for comfort. They work as both loungewear and pyjamas so your little ones can decide whichever suits them (maybe even both?) and they’re also sustainably made! Yep, if you’re big on sustainable fashion you will love these pieces as they have recycled plastic in their material. And that’s not the only range made sustainably as our swimwear range is made from recycled materials too! Perfect for summer in and out of the pool. We think sustainability in fashion is so important so now you can wear these ranges in confidence knowing they are eco friendly! Pick yours up here.
Shop second hand on Reskinned.
Reskinned is takeback scheme which means they will take your unwanted items and fix them up in any way they can to sell them on. The products that they manage to make good as new will be sold on their ebay marketplace so that’s a great place to go for those secondhand goodies. Reskinned works with many big brands and currently takes lots of our Grass & Air wellies and rainwear. Especially with the current weather, wellies and rainwear are a must for your children so if you’re looking to kit them out, Reskinned won’t let you down. And if you do have some spare Grass & Air goodies to give away, you can get a £5 voucher for our store by donating your own. If haven’t tried buying pre-loved clothes before then you’re going to be pleasantly surprised. Many of the items are in fantastic condition and you can feel assured you’re shopping sustainably as well. Visit Reskinned here.
Set up a Swap Shop
Swap shops are a fantastic alternative to shopping second hand except usually it doesn’t cost you a thing! We recently started donating wellies here and there to local community groups and schools to do our bit for the children. One group we work with quite regularly is The Conker Crew (add link). They’re known for running many community events where your little ones can have fun and get creative in the big outdoors. And at many of these events they host a swap shop where you can hand in any old wellies in exchange for some new Grass & Air ones. It’s a great activity that people involved have really loved! There are swap shops all around the country for all sorts of things so they’re worth checking out if you’re looking for an alternative. You can find more information about our swap shops on our website. And there are just a few ideas on how you can re-wear your clothes this winter. If you do decide to try any of these make sure to let us know and tag us over on Instagram at @grassandair. We love seeing your photos and can’t wait to see what your little ones get up to.
